Pound coaching...........

IMO the only problem with pound is they think just because their pnut team wins the championship most of the time that that should translete to state titles in varisty. But thats not the case. I being from norton have played pnut, jv, and varisty (in the 90s). The pnut teams I played on were pretty good we beat morristown, tn in a championship game and we lost to pound twice. In jv we had two undefeated yrs and then in varisty we were lucky enough to make to state (1999, Jimbo first state team which I think alot of people forget, but thats another story). Who made it the next yr Pound! Do I think pounds coaching staff is to blame, no. The coaches can only do so much, it's up to players to do the rest. What I mean by that is the coaches can teach and get you ready, but it's up to players to have that desire and determanation(sp). If they players don't put forth the effort in the weight room, practice field, and playing field then they will never win.

Give'em hell. I did the same thing when i seen some stuff going on the stupid side at Appy.
Some on here and some i know personally, at Appy, coaches and friends got po'ed at me.
Did i care? No. It's about the kids i know and their careers as a Dawg.
Hate me all you want. But don't ruin it for the kids who have worked hard.

Coach Turner may of passed away. But it didn't change a lot of what the kids under him knew. Some for some reason went to change all that in one season. If it ain't broke don't mess with it or try to fix it. When it breaks down repair it and if it needs it overhaul it. But wait till it needs it.

I seen it didn't work and so did others, what was being tried at Appy.
So instead of ending up 2-8. Some decided to use what the kids knew and learned and we ended up, what 8-2.

If the coaches don't know how to coach get rid of them. Give them time to prove themselves. But 5 yrs is a good time limit. If your not progressing in the last 2. Well time to think a few things through.

I think Kelly will be a good upstart team. They have showed great strides. Yet i still see a few things they need to do.
They can be a team of the future. Kelly that is. But they can also have a one time run. Politics kills them. And they need some discipline. And they need the fans to lay off.

At Pound it's just simple. No commitment on a real staff that can last, and no backing to see it through.

If a coaching staff can't make it happen in 5 yrs. their not gonna make it happen. Bottom line.

Builder program to varsity.
And you have to come in and fire up your freshmen, and play them if your seniors, don't produce.

Being a senior when i played ball didn't mean you started. You won your position and you kept it by playing hard and being dedicated.
If not you was benched for who would get the job done. Football ain't a place for parents and those who think their son is a super star, it's for those who want to win and those who pay the price.
The coaches have to also pay the price and play the players who will get it done. Freshman or Senior.

It's hell sometimes. And sometimes you have to be the Devil to be a head coach.

Just curious, when prior to this year, Clintwood had been in the playoffs.

Previously several years, Pound had a huge line. I've seen cement trucks that were faster though. They would normally be blessed with either a decent qb or a decent rb, and maybe one person that could catch. The defensive side, was the same big guys who could clog the middle but could do nothing outside of down field.

This year Pound had more skill people but there lines were not there. Not only not fast but lacking size. In the 7-7 camp, the skill people ran up and down the field on us. However when there was a line put in there, be it their offense or defense, they had problems.

They should just let Rocky Cantrell (Fielders Choice Guy) coach all the sports at Pound. He basically tries to run all the programs anyway. The people of Pound would try to fire Don Shula or Vince Lombardi, that's just they way they are.

Coach Mullins should try to go somewhere where people have a clue about what's going on. In my mind I think he's a pretty good football coach.

thats exactly right man..

this years varsity team we had won the super bowl..some of the players dont play as a team and the line didnt block worth crap this year..
i guarantee every team we played this year had 5 sacks some prolly had more..

Shame on you Rock!That is kids you are talking about and everyone of those boys you are calling out like that should send you a pm telling you just how your comment made them feel.It is ok to say that our line was slow.I think they know that without you making such a comment as you did.A grown man such as yourself should know better.


It's gonna be even more interesting to see what happens in varisty bb ...being as all the same coaches are gonna coach bb to.I wonder if all the B******* is gonna want to make them try any harder in bb as a coach?

Oh and while i'm at it I just want to say that I really wish the jv bb coach was our football coach.Seems like he is telling it like it is from the very start ...if you don't practice ,you don't play.Tough and dedicated..just the way I like it.Pretty good coach IMO.

When it's true, it's true.
You can't lie to kids and let them think everything is okay, just because they are big ole boys doesn't mean they dont have to work on speed drills too.
Parents baby players way too much these last couple of years.
I love Pound, I loved my time there. I've seen three different head coaches at Pound, but when you have a decent record, the year before last, then come out and have a horrible season, it's time for a change. If you have a good coach, he can coach a team into a situation to win, no matter how good the team is.

This is exactly what is going on there. Just because you have some kids on pnut that matured faster than the others and they look like all-pro athletes doesn't mean anything when they get to high school and everyone esle has matured and hit their growth spurts and then they are just decent athletes amongst other decent athletes.
